Dial on Display
While touchscreens are intuitive and simple to use interfaces, some users long for mechanical tactile controls for certain functions. A great example is rotary knobs for adjustment of the volume on a radio or the temperature in the car. aXiom can support a feature called Dial on Display which enables mechanical knobs to work in conjunction with the touchscreen.
One cool feature is that these dials can be back illuminated, and the display can actually shine through the centre of the dial. A huge advantage of the aXiom family of chips is the dial does not make contact with the screen, so it is a reliable solution for automotive environments!

Press-on-Dial
aXiom now supports Press-on-Dial functionality. This allows each dial to detect three distinct user interactions:
-
Hover detection as the user approaches
-
Touch-on-Dial when contact is made
-
Press-on-dial when pressure is applied
All these features apply when the dial is rotated in any position.
Up to 5 dials can be independently supported per aXiom device.
This capability is compatible with standard trans cap sensors, including the TouchNetix Chrominance range, and does not require force sensing.
